Rocio Mazuecos

She was born in Mallorca but has Andalusian ancestry. She moved to Granada to study fine arts, where she developed a strong interest in illustration and printmaking. After graduating, she decided to go to Paris to train in illustration and comics at the CESAN school.

The vagaries of life brought her back to the shores of the Mediterranean, where she spent three years in Naples, combining and assimilating the different disciplines learned, beginning a pictorial creation alongside editorial projects. She then moved to Turkey, but her stay was interrupted by the health crisis, which ultimately led her to settle in France, in a small medieval village called Fresnay sur Sarthe. It was there that she created her studio to devote herself entirely to painting and capture all her lived experiences, whether exterior or interior observations.

Travel is the driving force behind its creation, inspired by ancient civilizations, archeology and the symbolism specific to each culture. Having had the opportunity to live in countries such as Italy, France, Turkey and Spain has not only inspired her, but also enriched her practice and experiences, which resonate in the gestures repeated by our ancestors, like the encaustic painting on the walls of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

His work is characterized by this mixture of cultures and techniques; in the same room one can observe Western methods of oil painting, Eastern methods such as the use of rice papers, as well as ancient techniques such as encaustic, thus creating bridges and contrasts between them .
