Ana Montoya

Colombia • 1978

Ana Montoya works primarily with organic materials from the plant world. Her creations are meticulous, elegant, and timeless.

Biography

Colombian anthropologist born in 1978, Ana Montoya grew up in a village in the heart of the Andes mountain range in South America.

She integrated and discovered textile art among the indigenous communities of the Amazon region. The immense respect these communities displayed for the natural environment appealed to her. This experience allowed her to explore craftsmanship from a new perspective: combining the artistic with the ecological.

In 2004, she moved to New York where she trained in weaving techniques. After studying textile art at the Escola Massana in Barcelona in 2009, she gradually found a space for expression around the loom.

Through her work, Ana Montoya seeks to reconnect with nature. Her organic pieces recall the rhythms and cycles that our contemporary lifestyles ignore today.
