Chantal Dufour

Chantal Dufour pursues an artistic journey between passion and reflection. In her series of faces, they appear on an indefinite background of white space, punctuated by the play of lines and by lively patches of solid colors. On certain canvases the surface is encrusted with various materials (cardboard, paper, sand, plastic...) such as the resurgence of fossils or the traces of an exploded space. The faces are refined, sometimes isolated or sometimes intertwined, sharing their questioning looks (is it surprise or concern?) on their being-in-the-world.

In a joyful and playful form, the artist expresses emotions linked to her personal history but which relate to universal issues which question us about our trajectory and our future. In this series of recent paintings which highlights a choreographic and symbolic aspect of her work, the graphics are constructed and dynamic while maintaining a profound freedom.

Chantal Dufour's career is punctuated by numerous exhibitions and distinctions in France and abroad. For the past year, Chantal has also worked as a duo with ceramic sculptor Manoli Gonzalez to create four-handed sandstone works. She divides her time between the Paris region and Brittany where she founded a gallery in Tréguier open to artists of contemporary expression.
