Biography

Chris Marmier is a French Amsterdam based artist. Born into a bi-cultural family and having lived in various countries, he draws inspiration from observing and reinterpreting the world around him. Chris’s art has a distinctive stroke and palette of colours which he uses as a language to tell his stories.

Either coming from his sharp eye for detail and analysis on society that give him the ability to outline, out of a seemingly simple scene caught on the moment, the deepest drives of humans, or drawn by his highly evocative poetic abilities. Each piece invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the intricate details and deeper meanings, and usually puts humans at the center. Allowing Chris to explore themes of identity, nature, culture, and politics.

Chris studied visual communication and worked as an art director, always sketching on the sides of his notebooks. Since 2015, his colourful, detailed work has gradually attracted attention from galleries around the world. He primarily uses acrylic ink on panels and sometimes works digitally.
