“I just want to cheer people up a bit, as there’s far too many miserable bastards out there!” (Bortusk Leer)
Bortusk Leer is a British street artist residing in Amsterdam. His manic, euphoric little monsters have been engaging viewers and adding a touch of bold positivity across the city since 2006. Over the years, Bortusk has developed and honed his signature voice and style, expanding his world and universe while growing alongside his creatures. His work has evolved into other lively abstract pieces, videos, TV shows, and numerous psychedelic assemblages of Neo-Pop-Art-Brut, bringing him to exhibit in many galleries and street-art festivals across the world.
Fascinated by the Dutch-born Cobra movement, inspired by futuristic heroes, and influenced by the children of the world, his aim is not only to create as much art as he can, but also to put a smile on everyone’s face and spread positive emotions while doing so.
Bortusk's work looks beyond the world of division, suspicion, and distress that we seem to live in. Though his mission may appear naive to some, we believe it is part of the cure to heal our souls and reopen our hearts. Bortusk himself does not fear naivety; he fears cynicism.
He challenges our mental, social, and political barriers, attempting to disrupt our fears and expectations. Boldly and playfully, his effervescent work encourages the inner child in us all to come out and engage with our environment and society.
