Artistes provocants
L'histoire de l'art a été rythmée par de nombreux scandales et coups d'éclats d'artistes provocants. Le rôle principal de l'art étant de faire ressentir des émotions aux spectateurs, il est évident que certains artistes cherchent à nous sortir de notre zone de confort. C'est ainsi que certains peintres provocants ont scandalisé la critique, comme Gustave Courbet avec sa fameuse toile « L'origine du Monde » en 1866, fort en avance sur son temps quant à sa représentation de la nudité. Mais les peintres ne sont pas les seuls artistes provocants. Les photographe Nobuyoshi Araki ou encore Bettina Rheims tournent également leurs objectifs vers des sujets controversés.
Cependant, le scandale n'est pas forcément lié à la nudité. La provocation dans l'art répond surtout à une volonté de choquer et de s'affranchir des limites ou tabous. C'est pourquoi de nombreux artistes engagés se servent de leur art pour diffuser des messages subversifs et aller à l'encontre des gouvernements établis. C'est le cas notamment des street-artistes, tels Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat ou encore Keith Haring.
