Biography
Joana Vasconcelos was born in Paris in 1971. She lives and works in Lisbon. The artist has exhibited his works since the 90s. His participation in the 51st edition of the Venice Biennale in 2005 allowed him to make his work known internationally. Since then, she has collaborated regularly with the greatest institutions in the world: solo exhibition in 2012 at the Palace of Versailles, group exhibition at the Palais Grassi in 2011 and her first retrospective at the Museu Coleçao Berardo in Lisbon in 2010. The nature of the creative process by Joana Vasconcelos is based on the appropriation, decontextualization and subversion of pre-existing objects and everyday realities. His sculptures and installations, which reveal his keen sense of dimensions and his mastery of color, are emblematic of his reflection on questioning our everyday objects. The artist highlights the different current dichotomies creating a complicit but critical vision of contemporary society.
