Biography

Vivian Pingkayi Thompson is an Australian Aboriginal artist from the Pitjantjatjara people, born in 1959 and living in the desert community of Pukatja in South Australia. She is part of the Ernabella Aboriginal Artists Cooperative in Pukatja, where she is currently a board member. Her father, Kunmanara (Kawaki) Thompson, was a highly respected Pitjantjatjara man who played a very important role in the Aboriginal land rights movement. Her mother, Carlene Thompson, is a senior artist from Ernabella, and her sisters, Marissa and Anne, are both highly talented ceramic artists.
Vivian is a mother of three and a grandmother.

Vivian's works were acquired by the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra).
