After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Jean-François Charles published “Les Chevaliers du Pavé,” his first comic strip, in the Journal de Spirou. In 1980, he drew Le bal du rat mort based on a script by Jan Bucquoy (Deligne), then created Les Pionniers du Nouveau monde, a historical series that quickly found its audience.
In 1991, he debuted the Fox thriller with screenwriter Jean Dufaux. He designed an album for the concept series Le Décalogue, orchestrated by Frank Giroud, then moved on to direct color for India Dreams, scripted by his wife Maryse. This vast fresco, which begins in the colonial era, paints the portrait of three generations of women who will know the fascination of the Indies, just like the author and his wife during a long journey. Each drawing in this book exudes an incredible beauty and authenticity that has earned it several awards and a community of addicts around the world.
