Yi Zhang

My creative process emanates from my observations of our extraordinary world. I use psychological metaphors and let my characters wander through dark stories and walk towards their subconscious.

I usually write down my dreams. I have seen humans and animals together, horror and colourful, indescribable temptations. I want to create a world, free of all borders between all species, so that they can communicate with each other, while keeping their own insoluble individuality. 

I think that the artist is the spiritual medium of the contemporary world, he transmits and builds through his work a mysterious and fascinating universe. In this particular period, I have returned to more primitive themes: our emotions, desires, memories, fantasy, the relationship between man and his environment, folk tales, etc. My project is to deconstruct anthropocentrism through artistic creation. I want my creative experimentation to celebrate the value of life. 

After my studies, I became interested in installation art alongside painting, due to my deep reflections on objects and the texture of materials. This wide variety has allowed me to explore a new form of beauty that knows its own logic, and to integrate a more poetic exploration.
