Biography
Born on 20 September 1941 in the Landes region of France to a carpenter father, Roland Dupouy built his carpentry foundations in Mont de Marsan and Dax, where he completed a four-year apprenticeship.
His quest for excellence led him to the Ecole Boulle from 1958 to 1963, where he studied in the fittings section before specialising in Applied Arts. In 1967, he completed his training with a BTS in industrial aesthetics from CSEI.
Roland Dupouy worked as an artisan joiner from 1968 to 2000. Throughout these years, he practised his professional skills while cultivating a passion for sculpture. His sculptural work reflects an exceptional mastery of woodworking techniques and a refined artistic sensibility. Using fragments salvaged from the wood trades - joinery, lumbering, sawmilling - he has created unique pieces using processes of association, assembly, opposition, collage, inlay, cutting and recomposition, often drawing inspiration from marquetry.
His creations are finished with meticulous polishing, resulting in sculptures that are not just pieces of craftsmanship but true works of art.
