Biography

In the world of cinema posters, Clément Hurel, born in Nancy in 1927, was considered one of the references, sometimes even THE reference. His work as a poster artist is exceptional.

Clément Hurel, who died in February 2008, leaves behind a considerable legacy of posters that have left their mark on French and world cinema. He created so many posters that he sometimes forgot some of them. "Are you sure this one is me?" he asked a journalist in 2007, who asked him about the poster for Pouic-Pouic. The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob, The Uncles, Once Upon a Time in America, Breathless, Forbidden Games, A Taxi to Tobruk, Everyone is Beautiful, Everyone is Nice, A Sunday in the Country, The Murderous Summer, that's also him. His career is all the more astonishing and moving because it was born by chance. He didn't envisage this profession when he left Nancy to join the Beaux-Arts in Paris.

During his career, mainly focused on cinema and advertising, he created more than 1,500 posters, some of which have become legendary.

Clément Hurel is a Knight of Arts and Letters.
