Othmane Maiga

Othmane Maiga is an emerging artist based in Toulouse, whose flamboyant pictorial universe is rooted in pop culture, comics, rap, and the imagery of the 90s. A student at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, he developed an instinctive and joyfully irreverent style of painting, where satire, tenderness, and self-mockery intersect.

At the heart of his practice is a gallery of anthropomorphic characters: muscular, costumed dogs, parodying the heroic, virile, or bling-bling figures that populate our imaginations. By playing with gender stereotypes, oversized egos, and power poses, Othmane Maiga subverts the codes to better desacralize them. Behind the visual humor, a whole reflection on the creation of images, identity, and representation is emerging.

The work (acrylic, spray paint, and glitter on canvas, 150×200 cm) fully embodies this approach: two body-built superhero dogs rush in front of a yellow BMW, against a backdrop of a pink and purple sunset. One wears a costume reminiscent of Captain America, the other a suit of armor with a star-spangled arm like Winter Soldier. Their names, , resonate like archetypes of a pop-fictional couple, simultaneously kitsch and glam. The whole thing forms a spectacular scene, saturated with color and references, where parody becomes a critical tool.

Beyond painting, Othmane Maiga extends his practice to textiles, photography, and performance, incorporating collaborations with models and brands. His work is profoundly collective, driven by a desire to share and connect with contemporary narratives. Each canvas thus becomes the starting point for a universe, somewhere between homage, mockery, and the construction of new myths.
