Indigo, azure, cyan, cobalt... there are dozens of shades of blue. This reassuring and calming colour - once derived from precious minerals - has always inspired artists. And this is no coincidence! Nature blesses us with the most beautiful blue landscapes, such as the sky and the ocean. Natural expanses are so fascinating that we often associate blue with infinity, freedom and confidence.

Associated with the monarchy for a time, blue triumphs from the 20th century onwards. This is the case of Wassily Kandinsky who presents his patterns on a simple blue plane representing the sky. Marc Chagall also favoured this method. Blue holds an important place in his works on Biblical themes, because it is a colour that is associated with the divine, even the Virgin Mary. Without forgetting of course, the artist whose name is inseparable from the colour blue: Yves Klein.
