Plaster Sculpture for Sale

Many years, plaster has been used for drafts or models of stone or marble sculptures. Only recently has it been recognized as a work of art in itself. Plaster is fragile and white when left in its natural state; artworks made of plaster have a poetic and aerial appearance. 

On Artsper, artists are having a field day with the medium, which is being appropriated in a wide variety of ways through contemporary practice. Marina Mankarios, for example, is transcribing the codes of classical statues into her own plaster sculptures. Christina A. West chips away at her seemingly-classical busts, eroding them until surprising colorful layers appear!
