Biography

Giotto Stoppino was born in Milano in 1926. He studied in Venice then in Milan, where he graduated in 1951. From 1953 to 1968, he worked for the cabinet “Architetti Associati” founded by Vittorio Gregotti and Lodovico Meneghetti. At the same time, he joined  the ADI, an association dedicated to industrial drawings (he was also the president from 1982 to 1984). At the end of the 1960s, Stoppino founded his own architectural and design studio. In 1972, he presented the ‘537’ lamp (Arteluce) and a nest of tables  (Kartell) during the famous exhibition ‘Italy: the New Domestic Landscape’ in New-York. As talented designer, he received the prestigious prize Compasso d’Oro in 1979 for his credenza Sheraton. Stoppino deeply marked the Italian design by his innovative approach.
