Figurations foisonnantes et colorées
Les pigments ont été inventés il y a environ 40 000 ans, et depuis lors, les artistes les utilisent comme élément visuel pour créer des œuvres d'art. De l'utilisation du rouge dans l'Égypte ancienne au bleu plus recherché que l'or au Moyen age, l'utilisation de la couleur - et la valeur de cette dernière ! - ont évolué à travers les âges. Ainsi s'est également développée la théorie des couleurs. C'est le poète allemand Jonathan Wolfgang Goethe qui a été le premier à développer une théorie de la couleur, en 1810. Selon Goethe, les couleurs sont composées à la fois de lumière et d'ombre. Plus tard, les impressionnistes font abstraction des éléments visuels classiques de la peinture pour se concentrer sur l'essence de la couleur, en utilisant des tonalités qui complètent et capturent la lumière telle qu'on la perçoit à l'œil nu, et pas telle qu'on la traite selon la tradition des beaux-arts. Au début du 20ème siècle, Vassily Kandinsky crée une grille de couleurs qui associe les couleurs aux sons et aux émotions !
L'utilisation et la fascination pour la couleur inspire toujours la création contemporaine.
