Objets de la culture populaire
La culture populaire est la culture prédominante d'une société donnée à un moment donné. Elle comprend ses croyances, ses normes, sa mode, ses objets ou encore sa musique, et se démarque surtout par ce qui est représenté dans les médias de masse. Depuis le mouvement pop art, qui a débuté dans les années 1950 et atteint son apogée dans les années 1960, de nombreux artistes ont représenté des aspects de la pop culture dans leur art.
Des objets du quotidien à la publicité, en passant par les bandes dessinées, les artistes du pop art ont mélangé des éléments de la pop culture et des beaux-arts afin de remettre en question la hiérarchie entre les « haute » et « basse » cultures. Ce mouvement est né d'une réaction contre les traditions des beaux-arts, qui, selon les membres du mouvement, n'avaient aucun rapport avec la vie de tous les jours. Un exemple clé et une figure de proue du mouvement pop art aux États-Unis est Andy Warhol, qui est devenu célèbre en présentant des objets quotidiens comme œuvres d'art - pensez notamment aux conserves de soupe Campbell et aux boîtes de savon Brillo.
Aujourd'hui, des artistes contemporains du monde entier perpétuent l'héritage du mouvement pop art en produisant des œuvres qui mêlent beaux-arts et culture pop.
