Remèdes Galerie is pleased to present Prisca Lobjoy’s second monographic exhibition. His series, entitled “Les Régions du Passé”, questions the memory associated with the places crossed. How can we trust such a personal and subjective memory? What is left of a relationship if not the idea we have of it, the story we have told ourselves about it? Some time after the disappearance of her father, Prisca Lobjoy returns to the photographs taken during the visits she made to him in the last years of his life. Buried for a while in his computer, these images lead him to confront these suspended moments. Overwhelmed by emotion, she begins to sort through this “photographic material” excluding photographs that are too narrative and focuses on those representing the side of lived experience. From his travels to and around his father's house an idea of spatio-temporal convolutions emerges. Fleeting visions of landscapes, trees, sky, day, night, moon, ordinary gardens, ... Sensory captures made in the absolute necessity of capturing beauty and life. Putting the oppressive reality at a distance in an existential recourse to poetry, Prisca affixes, on certain photographs, the coded language extracted from a digital image of the series to express the layers of the intimate and the distended relationship to time contained in a memory linked to familiar space. She returns today to this series, deepening her expression of the variations of memory and the memories that compose it. Rather than standardizing everything, she chooses to diversify the printing techniques, the types of paper used and the formats. For the production of the prints, she collaborates with two great figures in the printing industry, Diamantino Quintas for the silver prints and Gérard Issert for the pigment prints. Through their sensitive and meaningful contributions they accompanied Prisca at the end of her research. Memory takes shape and the intimate materializes, giving way to the sensory journey that is “the regions of the past”.
