I knew Anne Deval at the very beginnings of my activities in art. I immediately liked his work, found at the end of a courtyard in the Bastille district. Deep, mysterious, elegant, quite simply beautiful. Anne did what I expect from an artist: to take us in a new way to an elsewhere that helps to overcome everyday visions. This is what all those who admire her hieratic sculptures in the gallery tell me: of course, they remind us of the distant civilizations that Anne adored, but also they give to see, to think about something else, very profound. , very strong, who speaks to us a lot, because he speaks to us about ourselves. Anne was well acquainted with the splendours of bygone times that she recounts in some way in her works. But she was also interested in the vulnerabilities and frailties of the man about whom her work tells us. She experimented with them every day by giving modeling lessons to people with mental disabilities. She loved to do it and did it with great generosity. With a strong character, Anne was not the type to complain about anything. Because she found in the silence of her studio the place of the mystery of creation, which allows the artist to touch the very essence of beauty. This gave her back the vital energy and no doubt made her hope, beyond the difficulties, the small and the great miseries. Anne Deval left us much too soon, of course, but we keep her unique and magnificent works that are so similar to her. - Guillaume Sébastien
