Nean

Nean is a Belgian artist who grew up in Brussels, member of the Kingdom crew. Self-taught, he made his debut on paper before turning to spray paint. Very quickly, graffiti awakened his passion for the treatment of the portrait, it thus offers him the central place of his work. In 2014, he decided to practice his passion full time and subsequently joined the artist collective Propaganza, a non-profit organization bringing together some twenty artists from Belgium, France, Spain and England. Influenced by traditional painting and digital art, his work gravitates between an experimental and photorealistic style. Curious about everything, he multiplies the tests on large supports, alternating digital painting, painting on wall and painting on canvas. Artist with multiple influences, Nean represents his works using different mediums such as the aerosol can but also the computer which allows according to him a lot of freedom. The moments we live, the people we meet, the places we pass through, imprint our memories. But this past which passes, nostalgic or factual, undergoes the pangs of memory: it deteriorates, blurs, merges or evaporates. Nean's most personal works deal with this problematic of time, with these small arrangements with the romance of our lives, for a little more better or a little less worse. The artifices of memory, Nean also expresses them through chromatic aberrations and double exposures. Virtual touches that are like the expression of unmasked scars, the admission of what resists erasure, of the irreducible of our lives. The wall as a support perfectly matches this relationship to time, with its aging and decrepitude, which are never forgotten; or with the amalgamation of interventions which, even under the layers, keeps track of their presence.
