Presentation

Ash or Victor Ash is an artist from Paris, currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

He began his artistic career in the early 1980s by spray painting on works palisades at the Louvre and around the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. From 1983 to 1986, Ash called himself Saho then Ash2

In 1984, Ash was the first to paint in the mythical wasteland of the Stalingrad metro or La Chapelle, which very quickly became a gathering place for the Parisian hip-hop movement.

Ash was part of the BBC (Bad Boys Crew) or BadBc graffiti group with JayOne and Skki. The BBCs with Bando, Mode2, JonOne, the alphabetical force are considered as precursors of the graffiti movement in Europe. Inspired by the lettering styles of the New York subway frescoes, most of them began by spray painting and tagging their names on the subway. With a few stencils such as Blek the rat and Miss.Tic they represent the first wave of street art in Europe.

Ash's first graffiti were published in several works on the subject such as Spraycan Art by Henry Chalfant (en) and more recently in the film Writers by Marc Aurèle as well as the international report Bomb It.
