Presentation

Vincent Faudemer is an artist from Normandy, France. Faudemer is known to have appropriated one of the major symbols of his childhood, the character Babar, as the main subject of his work. He works in a similar fashion to Jeff Koons, reworking sculptures with a silver-based treatment.

In a craze within his first year exhibiting, many French and American celebrities were seduced by his work.

Faudemer's first exhibition was in September 2018 at the world-famous Palace Plaza Athénée and his first auction was in Monaco on September 26, 2018 for a charity gala for the Prince Albert 2 of Monaco Foundation.

On Sunday, November 11, 2018, Faudemer's feature on the M6 television channel was watched by more than 2.5 million viewers.

Living and working between Normandy and Miami, Vincent Faudemer subverts the image of the famous elephant to launch a reflection on the consumer society and excessive capitalism. He dresses his character, called Babolex, in brand names and premium luxury items as to reflect a consumer habit of the affluent global society. The choice of the elephant by the artist is meaningful, with the elephant being a pillar of Africa, representing wisdom and divinities for many civilizations. Babolex perfectly embodies the opposition between purity and childhood, against the passage to adult life and the change of values.

Vincent Faudemer regularly quotes Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Jean-Michel Basquiat as his sources of inspiration.
