Presentation

Jean-Marc Mariani is a free sculptor, open to the dialogue offered by his favorite material, marble. His gaze on the block brings out the invisible and gives birth to volumes of expressive simplicity. The emergence of its forms explores new paths in the world of the sensitive where shadow and light interact like “stone poems”. Jean-Marc Mariani confronts this collaboration with the material and engages in a fight with it through the resistance of his gesture, thus giving it a model with sinuous and soft lines. His work is singular by the choice of the minimalist path taken and the result of which shows forms inspired by nature, beautiful, sincere and measured.

The universal dimension of his sculptures is revealed by elementary, timeless forms carved by the thought of the artist who follows the spirit of the material. A material ready to accommodate a set of forms defined by the hand of man which inscribes the finished work in an implicit reality, and which is explained by the presence in its work of the human soul. Indeed, the strength of his labor is reflected in the textural qualities of the material by the action of the polishing of the marble, thus revealing an almost translucent shine which makes the veins of the material visible, like an epidermis.
