Philippe Martins

Born in Nice in 1973, Philippe Martins grew up between the French Riviera and Lisbon, in Portugal, where his family roots go back.

Very young, he devoted himself to graffiti, street art, painting as well as photography while taking courses in academic drawing.

His first photo work spontaneously extended to image editing, graphics and then artistic direction while his taste for travel, alone or in good company, led him to travel the globe - DSLR camera in hand - and so refine his mastery of the image. 

The first exhibitions of his work confirm his intuition: he can simultaneously embody his three passions: photography, graphics and image editing.

Under the name of original artist AnonymDesign, Philippe Martins focuses on the fundamental principles of work - vision and gesture - much more than the fruits of this work. So much so that he does not deem it necessary to go to the exhibitions which present his works, resolutely anonymous.

 

"I believe that if we use certain forms and let others overlap, overlap, we can express by the symbol what lives in us as what we left behind.

This is why I choose anonymous faces extracted from drawings or photos of silhouettes. I like to give a figure to ordinary landscapes. " 

Like so many neutral compositions, the works by Philippe Martins reach the drawing point, leaving it to the imagination to give a face to the lack of identity.
