Presentation

Born in 1979, Babou began graffiti in 1994 in the urban landscape. Impregnated with Hip-Hop and Old School Parisian and New York culture, he produced his first color frescoes on the outskirts of the capital in the early 1995s.

In 1998 he formed the Man Town crew which brought together several inspirations and disciplines, but after two years of effort, the requirements of their projects did not allow them to gather enough means for them to see the light of day in the eyes of the general public. The artist then begins a solitary retreat.

In 2004, he emerges with new techniques and quickly, passionate about cinema, it is the superheroes who will best embody his desire for action through art.

In particular Captain America, embodying the American dream, the birth of Street and Pop Art. These playful and graphic characters will perfectly illustrate his desire to create new images with youth.

Fascinated by Basquiat, Pollock, Bacon as much as Zao Wou Ki, his Pop paintings explode in color.

In 2006 he organized his first exhibition in Paris.

This success motivates him to hold private exhibitions almost every year until 2016.

During these 10 years he will never stop working on his style and technique.

A stay in the United States will inspire his universe in 2016. No pro American political message, however, Captain America, will represent the USA for the freedom to undertake, and for BABOU it is the very essence of Art. We will find in his works from 2016 this superhero as red-white-red as this French artist.

“Art is universal! »His characters in front of you, piercing looks, carried by a plasticity studied but never too sophisticated. BABOU is a designer but does not want to play with it.

His faces remain wild, primitive; quick portraits, almost childish to see animals.

He maintains a taste for the unfinished, but a taste for the essential; the nervous touch, loaded with affect, he gives life to these characters by letting hover over his portraits, a ghostly and mystical character that connects us humans, mortals and imperfections.

Joining Richard Orlinsky and his concept Wild, cosmic and meditative, his work does not require always correct perspectives, because only the enchantment counts: to lose oneself and to find the animality of the free man.

Now daily in his workshop in Paris, he works with music, inseparable from the process.

An artist to follow!
