Gilles Morteveille

Born in 1961, Gilles Morteveille was introduced to photography at an early age by his father, who taught him the basics of shooting and printing in the laboratory. Convinced that this was a means of expressing himself and bearing witness to the world, he continued to work with photographers who had been in the business for years. He will never stop working with professional photographers to improve his technique. 

He will deepen all the facets of the profession, practicing landscape, street and portrait photography. His professional career took an astonishing turn since, in parallel with his photographic work, he sang and composed songs and shows for children for about twenty years. 

However, in his forties, he completely resumed his career as a photographer and in 2004 he produced a series on the theme of industrial wastelands, which later led to the series R-Evolution,

This series, which combines images of the human body with overexposed details of dilapidated walls, shows in parallel the aging of the body and the interventions of man on nature since the industrial revolution.

In addition to these photographic compositional works, he likes to offer the beauty of landscapes and nature through more conventional photographic works such as his "Iceland" series.

Today, he is working on new series of portraits, such as those of the inhabitants of Antraigues-sur-Volane for the Jean Saussac festival. Or the series of nudes in black and white entitled "l'âme à nu" (the naked soul) which proposes to his subjects to give themselves up to the camera's gaze, alone behind a table.

Finally, as part of a project in residence with the site of Oradour-sur-Glane, he is working on a photographic series on the theme of traumatic memory.
