Bastien Bonhomme

Bastien Bonhomme gives body to bronze animals marked by a palette of emotions and expressions characteristic of the artist.

It was at the end of 2018 that this Nantes native embarked on sculpture, leaving alone to discover the richness and specificities of clay. From the beginning, it is the raw reliefs of the animal musculature in motion, and the textures of the coats and furs that attract it. This is what inspired his first creation “American Bison" (Nov. 2018).
A graduate of Arts and Crafts, this engineer made the choice to leave his position in 2020 to devote himself entirely to sculpture. The artist combines technique and rigour with his creativity to create works that highlight the diversity of the animal world. He amuses himself and takes inspiration from what the animal gives off to attribute intentions, a character, expressions often out of step.

Behind these sculptures all in reliefs and movements, a methodology is cleverly orchestrated: study of the models, realization of the sketches, definition of dimensions and creation of the internal skeleton of the future sculpture. Bastien Bonhomme then works on clay and plays on volumes and textures to give life to this animal, a life sublimated by the final patina.

It was in close collaboration with two French art foundries that the sculptor converted his clay model into a limited series of twelve immutable bronze copies.
