Is perfection a concept of this world? According to the Greeks, yes. And with the term τέλος they indicated the fulfillment, the term, the end. But also completeness and maturity. That is, when something could be considered performed, reached its perfection. First of all a practical concept, to be applied to the everyday life of objects and individuals. Only later can it also become an abstract concept: the Teleology that has permeated philosophical research since ancient times. A desire to investigate perfection, which Aristotle fixes in the fifth book of Metaphysics.

A similar impulse is what animates "I_have_noSense", a work by Lou Duca that starts from a typically Greek reflection on Beauty: only what has order, symmetry, proportion, harmony can be considered such. Applying this concept to the body, it is necessary to insert another suggestion: are not its individual parts to have dictated the units of measurement? Finger, foot, palm, cubit, tense. In the statuary, therefore, the artist must establish and recreate the ideal relationships between these elements, restoring their objectified perfection. Lou Duca engages in this task moved by an Eros that focuses on the face of the statue, isolating the individual elements and sectioning them after tracing the construction lines. Whether you are faced with a particular trait from Athena Lemnia, from a portrait of Epicurus or Socrates or from the anatomy of an ear, what appears is an equally absolute beauty in its singularity.

Materials used: plaster, marble, gold leaf, bituminous wax, shellac.

Lou Duca: by combining goldsmiths, set design, painting and sculpture he launches his challenge to the separation between memory and experience. It does this through the use of different media and the creation of sculptures and video installations. His production is characterized by references to texts, works and architecture of a clearly classical matrix.
