A graduate of Fine Arts from the Lebanese University, Aya Abu Hawash is a remarkable emerging artist. Her practice is influenced by her identity as a Palestinian-Lebanese woman and the many ways that society pressures her to conform. She paints dazzling figurative works that address themes of self-image, intimacy, emotions & society standards.
In her work, she explores with wonder and conviction – between photographs, memories, history & media, through which she questions herself and her environment. Her work explores the intersection between the female and her journeys of misconceptions ,memory & emotions of beings that overlap in life.
Aya's paintings often show subjects who are in some way emotional or overthinking, aware of their own society standards, especially in relation to others. Riffing on politics, history & media trends, Aya Abu Hawash creates paintings, drawings, & mixed media rooted in societal critique and self-deprecating humor.
