Maïs, Le Marais D'Arles is an original hand-made photographic book realized in 1960 by the famous photographer Lucien Clergue.

The artwork consists of an album of ten gelatin silver prints (about 18 x 13 cm each one) mounted at top corners representing some beautiful details of the marsh of Arles.

Signed and titled in crayon on the front cover.
On the last page inscribed in crayon "Cette plaquette de dix photographies de Lucien Clergue extraite de la suite le marais d'arles a été tirée à 150 exemplaires par l'auteur. Ex. no.96."

Lucien Clergue (Arles, 1934 – Nîmes, 2014) one of the most acclaimed photographers in France and a founder of an annual festival in Arles that has become a mainstay of the art photography world. He was known for his masterful compositions and innovative use of light and shadow. His work has been associated with some of France’s most significant artists, intellectuals, and musicians including Jean Cocteau, Pablo Picasso, Roland Barthes.

Lucien Clergue is a French photographer, born August 14, 1934 in Arles, died November 15, 2014 in Nîmes. He exhibited regularly in Paris since 1958. In 1961, he presented his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1962 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, at the Pavillon de Marsan of the Louvre Museum. In 1970, with the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette and the writer Michel Tournier, Lucien Clergue founded the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie which later became the Rencontres d'Arles.

His personal and collective exhibitions in France and abroad will be very numerous, of which here is a small selection.

Retrospectives were held in Los Angeles (Galerie Louis Stern Fine Arts), Seoul, Freiburg in Br., Tokyo in 2006.

Exhibitions in New York (Galerie John Stevenson) and Munich (Galerie Bernheimer) in 2005.

The city of Arles organized a retrospective covering the 54 years of Lucien Clergue's work at the Van Gogh space in Arles, exhibition at Galerie Patrice Trigano, Paris, at Galerie Louis Stern Fine Arts, West Hollywood, USA, in 2007.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?

For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.

To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. Where can I have my order delivered?

Return and cancellation

You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.

In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.

Artsper will manage the return of the work and will bear the cost of returns (which will either be paid by you and refunded by Artsper or directly paid by Artsper).

The artwork must be returned in perfect condition and in its original packaging (or equivalent).
