Linee spontanee
Non sorprende che storicamente, il nero come colore è legato alla sonnolenza, alla malinconia e alla follia. Ma la storia di questo colore è molto più ricca di sfumature... Dalle spesse pennellate nere che creano linee spontanee in "Musica alle Tuileries" di Édouard Manet (1862) all'acquisizione dei diritti da parte di Anish Kapoor nel 2016 su Vantablack (la tonalità più scura del nero in questo momento), l'uso della linea nera ha catturato per secoli le ossessioni degli artisti.
Prima di abbandonare completamente le sue tele al colore, Pierre Soulages ha utilizzato la linea nera come un modo per conferire consistenza ai suoi dipinti, giocando con il modo in cui il nero e la luce interagiscono sulla tela. Mark Rothko, da parte sua, venerava la semplicità del colore e della linea e il loro giusto posto nella storia dell'arte astratto, come connessione tra l'artista emotivo e la sua espressione sulla tela, indipendentemente dal fatto che quell'emozione sia oscura o meno.
La linea è il fattore ultimo di definizione e affermazione, quindi, non sorprende, viene utilizzata istintivamente dall'artista. Nella selezione di opere di Artsper, artisti come Moon Shin e Gérard Escougnou erano noti per il loro uso di versi spontanei. Escougnou utilizza linee nere per emettere vibrazioni dal suo lavoro, mentre il bianco viene utilizzato come vuoto o momento di silenzio. Le linee possono incoraggiare l'introspezione e la riflessione nello spettatore, un modo per identificarsi con un'opera e con le ragioni per cui l'artista l'ha creata.
