Between black and white, passing through all the colors
Born in Algeria, Henri-Alain Ségalen studied in Tours. A graduate of the École Nationale Louis Lumière in Paris in 1977, he began working as a freelance photographer in 1980, collaborating with institutions and businesses on corporate and advertising assignments.
With his personal research, he joined the Gamma Rapho agency in 1990. In addition to numerous publications in the press and in publishing, he presents his photos during personal or collective exhibitions and participates in artist residencies, in France and abroad.
Author and photographer, Henri-Alain Ségalen lives in Ile de France, near Paris.
Through his travels around the world, or in his neighborhood, he has built a body of work nourished by his natural curiosity to leisurely explore the paths of his wanderings. His moods push him to immerse himself in recurring themes such as the unconscious affirmation of a quest, thus tracing an unbreakable link with all of his work.
Far from the current trends imposed by current trends, his photographs express a deep desire to capture the intimate waves of a world he feels is in decline. His images offer a pictorial testimony to the relationship between humans and their own societal organization and their interaction with nature. Urban landscapes blend with natural landscapes in which the presence of humans remains an essential element of entanglement.
Henri-Alain Ségalen sees himself as a contemplative photographer, honing a critical sense through the in-depth exploration of his subjects.
