Frédérique Cantais, painter

Frédérique Cantais was born in Paris in 1966, from the choreographic universe (classical, jazz) through that of words (poems, songs, short stories), she subsequently manages to touch the pictorial world nourished by these two artistic experiences.

"Everything is movement" she says, like the curve of the ephemeral dancer which she crystallizes with her generous brush and sprinkles it with poetry; the colors reflecting her rather romantic and musical style, always steeped in this quest for feminine aesthetics characterized by a certain softness, dreams, tenderness. 

She inscribes her work in no pictorial lineage because she has no master in short, she considers this adventure as a meeting with herself where the surprise of the rendering of the canvas is an enigma that she puts within reach of all as a gift. Her sources of inspiration are diverse and varied, because curious about everything and its opposite, she extrapolates her rather naïve figurative to a pure abstract that leaves room for the imagination. 

This sensitivity that inhabits her overflows from her canvases and is only the mirror that she holds out. Self-taught, she sees her technique as a practical end without making any feats, her result is this link or this dance that is created between her eye and that of the spectator.

Since that booklet, she has devoted herself to writing her own songs which she performs.
