Creixams PICÓ, Pere (Barcelona, 1893-1965).
Self - taught painter, Creixams began his career as a cabinetmaker and typographer. In 1918 he traveled to Paris and in contact with the artistic atmosphere of Montmartre, decided to devote himself to painting. In the French capital he participated in the School of Paris, and exhibited at the Salon des Independants (1922), the Fall (1925) and in the Tuileries. He also illustrated works of Rimbaud, Verlaine, Baudelaire, Cocteau and Max Jacob. Returns to Barcelona in 1927, and participated in the last exhibition of the Evolutionists. In 1936 he returns to establish his residence in Paris, but continued to exhibit regularly in Barcelona. Influenced by Nonell, his favorite subject was always the figure, as can be seen in the work presented here. The artist focuses all his attention on the figure of a harlequin, recognizable by the typical hat. The color, dark and cold range, affects the melancholy atmosphere redolent of the work. Creixams is currently represented in the MACBA, the Petit Palais in Geneva, the National Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and other European and American museums.
