Biography
Iryna Maksymova lives and works in Lviv, Ukraine. She graduated in 2013 from the graphic design department at Lviv National University.
Iryna Maksymova's works feature figurative and naïve subjects, allowing her to give a voice that may seem innocent and gentle to themes that are anything but, and that touch her personally: war, women’s emancipation, and more.
She explores the female body by blending feminine and masculine characteristics, promoting equality and interconnection. The artist continually seeks and develops ways to incorporate traditional Ukrainian motifs into new, fresh visual forms and to cultivate Ukrainian primitivist art. She considers her art as a platform for social and political activism.
Beyond Ukraine, where she exhibits regularly (including at the prestigious National Art Museum of Ukraine in early 2024), she is now represented worldwide: Los Angeles (2021), Golden Coast (2021), Berlin (2021), London (2022), Madrid (2022), Beijing (2022), and Taipei (2023).
Her works have been acquired by prominent private and institutional collections across Europe and North America. In 2023, she also had the opportunity to participate in a residency program at the Sainte Chapelle, Loire, France.
