PRESENT IMPARFAIT - Mauro Maugliani

The exhibition unveils around fifteen new works, each of which offers different levels of interpretation. In these paintings, Mauro Maugliani takes a personal look at the realities of life and investigates the intimate aspects of human actions, going beyond realism with self-inflicted disturbances, like those that punctuate life. His anti-portraits convey little stories: lost and fragile gazes before a difficult and yet marvelous present, with imperfect beauty, a source of contradictory emotions. This exhibition is intended as a pictorial reflection of our time which, without renouncing the perfection of form, searches in this imperfect present for answers to the future.

“Between disturbances, attributes and symbols, the portraits of Mauro Maugliani represent a contemporary and at the same time universal humanity. All the looks of the characters that the artist depicts look at us, in a specular frontality that generates a feeling of disturbing suspension where the anatomical design and pictorial realism give way to the mystery of each face, which becomes a landscape to be explored. The emotional and aesthetic present of the portrait becomes past immediately after the performance, while all the emotions and moods of the artist are locked in the eternal, narrated and therefore imperfect time of the work."
