Valérie Auriel invites us into her dreams, inspired by fairy tales, myths and popular legends. It transports us to imaginary elsewhere where nature is omnipresent. In his paintings, we find the atmosphere of the exuberant jungles of Douanier Rousseau and Gauguin, the mysterious forests of the tales illustrated by Gustave Doré. It is an idealized and fantasized nature where wild animals interact with humans, where the profusion of plants evokes the Garden of Eden. From memories, personal photographs, literary or artistic references, the artist creates a dreamlike and mischievous universe. His painting is figurative but not illustrative, you have to find your way in these pictorial atmospheres which open the door to interpretations. The visible suggests the invisible: details and characters with precise drawings mingle with writings, evanescent lines, melted glazes, as if they were floating in another dimension. It is through his great mastery of multiple techniques (acrylic, oil, oil pastel, collage) that the artist transcribes the richness of his imagination. The collages of tissue paper colored by her, the photographic transfers, the cut-out natural papers which she loves, brilliantly accompany the poetic soul of her painting.
