Oliver Dorfer was born in 1963 in Linz (Austria). Between 1967 and 1970 he spent his childhood in New Delhi, in India. He returned to Europe and started studying sociology in Linz in 1986.
In 1990, he becomes a member of the MAERZ artist collective. In 1991 he receives a grant of the city of Linz for visual arts. The same year he is awarded an artist residency in Canada, where he creates a series of prints.
He receives the special mention of the jury in 1994 at the International Painting Festival.
