Presentation

Currently a master student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, Sebastiaan Franco describes his work as classic documentary and visual anthropology. Inspired by the New Journalism his work centers on the fine line between those on the margins of society and those that are considered non-existent to society. Working with the principle of 'slow journalism' he spends a lot of time with certain people, from a few months up to a few years trying to experience and witness firsthand what life is like for the communities he documents.
He self published his first book as part of his bachelor's in university where he followed football hooligans for a year, this book was named The Third Half and printed in two editions. After that he spent a long time in Kenya documenting neuro patients in a mission station along the Rift Valley. He returned to Europe in 2017 and went to Dublin to live with Irish Travellers, a traditionally nomadic group with Irish heritage. Now two years later he is still living with the Keenan and Collins families on their site in Finglas, Dublin.
