Jean-Pierre Craninx

Born in 1965 in Waremme, near Liège, Belgium, Jean-Pierre Craninx is an emerging abstract painter, adept at black monochromatic painting. 

In addition to a multitude of training courses in various techniques, he graduated from the Saint Luc High School of Fine Arts in Liège , in visual and space arts.

He was a professor of design and practiced various professions but now devotes himself fully to abstract painting. 

His main reference is Pierre Soulages but also, in the alternative: James Austin Murray, Gerhard Richter or Giancarlo Bargoni. 

He gives himself no technical limits to create "his" blacks. Acrylic is mainly used but also epoxy, oil, polyester, mineral coatings ...

Structured effects of matter are also the subject of particular attention in his work. He can thus vibrate several blacks side by side and yet very distinct. 

His work is truly "artypic" because, for him, light is an integral part of the work and participates in the endless multiplication of it.

"The judicious use of black pictorial material, in my opinion, allows me, better than any other color, to put the light on stage.

The latter then becomes the main actor, the painter turning into a director trying to impose an imperfect scenario on a masterful actor with infinite talents. 

Another aspect of my work is the use of very powerful contrasts between shiny blacks and very absorbent mats, so as to accentuate the "presence" of the painting. 

I like the attraction that the work of art can then arouse in its environment by making it more present by putting some blacks in "vibration" side by side within the same composition."
