Presentation

Laura Gulshani is an accomplished fashion painter/illustrator. Aged only 25, she has already collaborated with internationally renowned haute couture fashion houses and magazines. Her trademark? Bright colours, attention to detail and thick brushstrokes.

Laura was born in Toronto, Canada. Unsure of which professional path she wanted to follow, she naturally turned to her first love, Fashion. During her studies  in Fashion Communications at Ryerson University, she drew. She had been drawing since she was very young. However, reluctant to embark on a career in art for fear of not being talented enough, she graduated and began various fashion internships. She alternated between PR, merchandising and journalism. For two years, her life was divided between day; her work as an editor, and night; her painting. Little by little she posted her works on Instagram and gained notoriety. She eventually devoting herself entirely to her second love, painting.

A talented draftswoman and painter, Laura has collaborated with major brands such as Chanel, Marie Claire UK, British Vogue, Elle Canada, Burberry and Guerlain. According to her, collaborations between brands and artists makes it possible to create unique and original pieces.

Laura takes her inspiration from details of everyday life; the pretty outfit of a girl walking down the street, a photo of a fashion article on Instagram, a magazine advert; everyday scenes before her. She is also inspired by Matisse, whom she loves above all for the way he makes his brushstrokes seem so easy. She admires Andy Dixon, David Hockney, Pegge Hopper and Pierre Boncompain. Finally, Laura paints lots of women: “Women are beautiful, both inside and out, and I like to explore the features and tones of their faces and the curves of their bodies in my paintings.”

Laura likes to describe her style as Post-Impressionist. She mostly uses acrylic and oil paint. Forms dance under her paintbrush and colours explode on her canvas.
