Presentation

Cathy Bélanger is a visual artist who holds a CEGEP degree in Art Education and a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. She is the Administrative Coordinator of the Presse Papier workshop in Trois-Rivières and has acquired experience through countless solo and group exhibitions as well as special artistic events held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts or the Biennale d'estampe contemporaine de Trois-Rivières.

Inspired by the world of Japanese printmaking, Cathy works concurrently and freely in silkscreen, collage and etching; she's always attuned to and looking for aesthetics in line and colour. She also explores dualism in the complementary nature of well-thought-out artistic representation (the hand and the circle) and fluctuating form (botany). Hands symbolize the bridge between mind, body and work, while nature expresses spontaneity, beauty and the world in which human beings evolve.

Finally, her series of engravings and silkscreen prints reveal the influences of two multitalented artists she greatly admires, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt.
