Although primarily known for her works of contemporary realism in both painting and drawing multi-faceted artist Mara Minuzzo has recently expanded her practice to include vibrant abstract works. For the artist these new works in oil represent a refreshing counterbalance to her laborious figurative works in acrylic and graphite, which typically take her weeks if not months to complete.
Primarily self-taught, her diverse influences include the natural world, people, illustration and architecture. While her realism works centre on an overall theme of illusion and pushing the boundaries of the genre, her abstract works are about playful interplays of colour, line and shape.
