JP Neira

JP Neira is a contemporary recording artist with 10 years of professional experience. His oil paintings on canvas, impeccably made, make up a proposal of fine irony and sociocultural criticism, which links with surrealism, the pictorial appointment and the cultural landscape of our times. Particular twists and turns in the figuration make evident the nonsense, the tension that emerges in everyday life and the founding ignominy of our history and symbols.

The artist builds a perspective of globality and its conflictive daily life. He evokes a hopelessly lost nature, in which the landscape is privatized in pursuit of devastation, profit and frivolity. In this context, war and peace participate in a particular ecopolitics, whose official accounts are dystopian. JP Neira vindicates the trade and the incisive gaze of art. As the artist himself points out: “Painting is, in my opinion, a very powerful tool that should not be missed, even more so in today's world, where images circulate in all pockets. Painting continues to have that poetry, that magic, and above all, the nobility of being images built with the hands, as the ancient painters did, who painted their truths so that we would know them, now, in the future..."

In 2019, Jp Neira was selected by Bahía Utópica to participate in "District 19 - París", an event of international trajectory, which brings together galleries and urban artists from all over the world. In 2020, the gallery produced his exhibition "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum". Translated as "If you want peace, prepare for war", the artist makes visible a hard vertebra of the system, of an Orwellian dichotomy. In the landscapes of the present, peace is confrontational and power boasts behind its plastic and smiling mask.
