Sheng Qi is graduated from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London, he returned to
Beijing in 1998 after many years in exile. Since 2010, the Chinese artist Sheng Qi lives between Beijing and London.

His artwork is subtly interesting and provocative. For the last 20 years he has been creating remarkable works of art in diverse media (photography, painting, sculptures, installations). In 1989, Sheng Qi committed a physical act in protest at the Tiananmen Square event, the chopped off his little finger and buried it in a porcelain flowerpot in Beijing.

Since then, the study of the body and body language has been a recurring theme in his work, trying to illustrate the recent Chinese history and culture. Citizens, political leaders, feminine images are the basis of his inspiration and the characters he depicts to express his opinion.
