Paul Lukin

Paul Lukin, born in the city of Split, Croatia in 1980, is a documentary photographer and photojournalist based in Bangkok, Thailand.

At an early age, Lukin developed a keen interest in drawing and arts, despite these artistic predilections, he paradoxically immersed himself in the world of competitive martial arts. Between 1995 and 2000, Lukin competed in all major Muay Thai championships, quickly gaining success, winning 3 consecutive Croatian titles, as well as silver medal at the world military games in 1999.

The career path of a Muay Thai fighter naturally leads to competing in Thailand, after several trips, he fell in love with the country and its people. He then became obsessed with fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming Lumpinee Stadium Champion, he then moved to Thailand and soon learned the heartbreaking reality of the fighting business in Thailand, causing him to re-evaluate his life goals. In 2004 Lukin discovered photography; which quickly became his obsession.

Lukin works on long term, self-assigned projects, focusing on documentary work in Southeast Asia. Lukin’s work is characterized by its powerful portrayals of the human condition, creating captivating compositions while retaining a minimalistic quality and sense of wonder. Working primarily in black and white, his work blends multiple genres, including photojournalism, street photography and fine art.
