Anu Eskelin

Artist Statement

I'm a visual artist and painter, living and working in
Vantaa in Finland. I love colors and it is evident especially in my
paintings.

I've spent a lot of time in Italy both on holidays and
our former second home situated in a small mountain village. I have also become
familiar with artist residency work both in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. My
processes often begin during my travels and continue at home. Memories and
things that come from the subconscious come into my paintings. In addition to
museums, I am easily fascinated by old ruins, small remote villages, hill
towns, forests, rivers, lakes, seas and so on. Music is also an integral part
of my painting process.

Different seasons also mean a change of color in my works. Autumn is a
wonderful time, nature gives up its greenery and gives it a great color
spectrum. Spring brings the awakening of nature and it is also a great time to
take photos. Photography is my hobby.

My inspiration comes mainly from beautiful, rugged and diverse nature.
Nature conservation is important to me and climate change has long been
reflected in the name of my works.

I mainly use acrylic paint, ink and carbon as my
materials.
