Presentation

Daniel Vernhettes was born in Paris in 1942. After the Lycée Montaigne, he studied typography and graphic arts at the Ecole Estienne. From 1962 he worked as a typographer and letterpress printer, then as a linotypist in printing houses and newspapers.

He became a photocomposer and worked at the Matin de Paris, then became a page designer at the Herald Tribune.

As a trumpeter and conductor, he has performed in more than a thousand concerts in Europe and New Orleans and has made numerous recordings.

Passionate about music, he has written several books on jazz, Cuban and Mexican music.

He has been drawing since he was a child, and began painting in 1959. Today he paints on paper, wood, and canvas using mostly printing inks and tube colors.

His pictorial research consists in playing between geometrical compositions and freer compositions in which improvisation holds a great place. It is said that some of his works are like some of his recordings.
