Jerk45

France  • 1970

Presentation

Through a phantasmagoric, colorful and abundant universe, Jerk leads us into the depths of his imagination, where he succeeds in combining - using classic tools and style - all the caustic spirit of his punk years, his emotional enthusiasm for seventies and the cracks of childhood. In this interior jungle, his chimeras - half-animal, half-robot characters who roam each of his works - play the transmission belts of his anxieties and obsessions, accentuating here the hatred of extremism or there, the derision of a blind faith. With his eye riveted on the past, he endeavors to restore retro imagery, through collages from period magazines he collects, or with the help of debris from posters recovered in the Paris metro. A meticulous DIY on existing compositions, supported by an impressive archive work, worthy of a historian sweeping the last century. More than a simple painter, he shapes with the old to better evoke the present. On closer examination, Jerk is not far from the activist of sustainable development, recycling on his canvases his clichés found in flea markets. The result is a vast artistic bric-a-brac, a hybrid work of outrageous consistency.
